Despite of being the most powerful politician in the Philippines right now, President Rodrigo Duterte chose not to spend his 73rd birthday by throwing a lavish party for his friends, Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher ‘Bong’ Go said.

According to Go, the President would only spend his birthday in his home in Davao City with his family.

“He has never been known to throw lavish birthday parties even when he was mayor of Davao City,” Go said in a statement.

Go added that the President is already happy if he received prayers from his friends and supporters as gift.

“Prayers from his well-wishers during his birthday would surely make him very happy.”

Even his first birthday as President, Duterte only chose to spend his time with his family.

Duterte’s simple lifestyle attracted the people which resulted to his victory last Presidential elections.

His supporters believe that politicians must follow the simplicity of the President.

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping is one of the first world leaders who sent President Duterte a birthday greeting.

In his statement, Xi thanked Duterte for his efforts to improve the relationship between China and the Philippines.

“Our bilateral relations have enjoyed ongoing betterment and improvement and reaped productive outcomes, which brought tangible benefits to our two peoples and promoted peace and stability of the region,” Xi said in his letter.
“I attach great significance to the growth of China-Philippines relations, and stand ready to work with you to carry forward sustained and in-depth growth of China-Philippines relations and bring about more benefits to our countries and peoples,” he added.

After the holy week break, President Rodrigo Duterte would go back to Manila to continue his job. He also said that he would fire many officials after his return.
