Among all our recent presidents, Gloria Arroyo weathered the most difficult international sea: September 9/11, SARS outbreak, Iraq War, and the Global Financial Crisis, to name a few international crises during her term.

The millennials might still be too young to understand what was going on from 2007-2008. The Global Financial Crisis was wreaking havoc in different economies. Yet the Philippines largely survived the crisis. Gloria Arroyo and her economic team made hard choices prior to the crisis that largely shielded the Philippines from a disaster.

If Gloria Arroyo, a very competent economist, weren't the president at that time, the Philippines would have probably suffered more.


But as Henry M Paulson Jr, Former US Treasury Secretary, once said:
“The problem in politics is this: you don’t get any credit for disasters averted.”
